MEET THE KING OF MOZAMBIQUE
Mr Bow is an outstanding and beloved musician from Mozambique, unique for his versatility in creating both modern and traditional music. He is well known for his hits Nitati-Dhaya, My Number One, Nitafa Wena and Good Life. On Coke Studio Africa 2017, Mr Bow makes his debut on the show paired alongside Zimbabwe’s Jay Prayzah.
THE BIG BREAK
Mr Bow’s professional music career kicked off when he was invited by Mozambican singer and producer Oliver Style to be part of N’Studio. It is here that he met Ta-Basilly, who greatly influenced his musical style. In 2008, Mr Bow released his first album titled "My Dream", which was a massive hit with songs like Txova-Xitaduma featuring Ta-Basilly and Anaha-Gwente with Denny OG. So far, he has released three more albums: “Kota de Familia” (2010), “Sign of Victory” (2012) and “The King of Mozambique” (2016).
His musical success has seen him win numerous awards including Best Male Artist at the Mozambique Music Awards (2015) and Gala Vibratoques of Vodacom (2017) for the song Vida Boa. He has also been recognized as the most outstanding singer in the life of the Mozambican people by Radio Indico, and received a Certificate of Recognition by the Minister of Youth and Sports in his country.
LIVING THE DREAM
Mr. Bow seeks to create music that transcends age, sex, race and creed. As a role model to the youth, his music focuses on themes that reflect the everyday life of Mozambicans. He often says: “Raise up your heads, fight for your ideas, work, invest in education, have faith, never stop dreaming, and the light sooner or later will shine to illuminate your life.”
BEHIND THE MUSIC
Full name Salvador Pedro Maiaze, Mr. Bow was born in Manjacaze, Gaza in 1982 to Pedro Salvador Maiaze and Roda Langa. After completing primary school in 2001, he moved to Maputo where he attended Malhazine High School. While still keeping his passion for music alive, he took up odd jobs to make do. Together with some of his friends, he formed a Hip-Hop outfit dubbed Strange Face but later went solo and switched to R&B and Zouk music.
Jah Prayzah popularly referred to by fans and media as “Musoja” (Shona word for the soldier), because of his signature band uniform of military regalia, is a Zimbabwean contemporary musician and lead member for the band Third Generation.
South African music duo Mafikizolo has cemented their status as one of the most iconic and legendary music groups in Africa.
Ykee Benda is a Ugandan musician and producer, who is signed on to Badi Music Label. Some of his popular songs include Kyenkyebula, Munakampala, Farmer and Malaika.
The award-winning Hip-Hop artist and record producer AKA from South Africa is undoubtedly one of Africa’s most talented and avant-garde rappers.
