WHO IS AVRIL?
Kenyan songstress Avril is a leading contemporary urban female artiste in East Africa. Known for her chart-toppers Nikimuona, Hello Baby and Yule Dem, the multifaceted singer is currently riding high on the charts with her latest track Uko. On Coke Studio season 3, she performed alongside Nigerian rapper M.I Abaga. She makes a return this year paired with Tanzanian Hip-Hop artiste Izzo Bizness.
Avril hit the spotlight with her 2008 song Mama followed by Leo - a collaboration with famed Tanzanian rapper AY that brought her regional recognition. Avril has several awards under her belt: she is a two-time Best Female Artiste winner at the Chaguo La Teeniez Awards (2011 & 2012) and has received a similar award at the Nzumari Awards (2010). She also won Best Boomba artiste at the Kisima Awards (2012). Avril has worked with various artistes including Ommy Dimpoz on Hello Baby, and Kenyan musicians Mustapha, Marya and King Kaka. Her success has also seen her named as one of the Top 40 women under 40 by Business Daily in 2015. Speaking fashionably, Avril was crowned Best Dressed Female Artiste at the Jumia Glamour Awards (2015) and received a nomination at the ABRYANZ Style & Fashion Awards.
Her continental appeal has seen her earn nominations on major award shows including Channel O Music Video Awards, Kilimanjaro Awards, Pearl of Africa Music Awards, AFRIMMA Awards and KORA Awards. Away from music, Avril doubles up as an actress having appeared on MTV Shuga season 1, Mali, Noose of Gold and Sumu La Penzi. With all these achievements, Avril has amassed a large fan base and following on social media.

Avril Nyambura was born and raised in Nakuru, Kenya before moving to Nairobi to pursue a career in music. She is the current Oriflame Kenya brand ambassador, and has previously worked as a Goodwill Ambassador with AMREF Stand Up for African Mothers and Transparency International’s “I Run for Integrity Campaign (2013).
