WHO IS AMANDA?
Amanda Black is a singer, songwriter and self-taught guitarist from South Africa who achieved recognition in 2016 following the release of her hit single Amazulu, which went platinum within three weeks of release. The single topped charts for 10 weeks and has made her one of the highest selling artistes from South Africa in 2017. The multi- talented individual joins Coke Studio Africa 2017, paired alongside Ghanaian artiste Joey B.
Amanda Black’s musical career can be traced back to South African Idols in 2015, where she made it to the top 10. Amanda then moved to Johannesburg in January 2016 to pursue a career in music, and was signed on by record label Ambitiouz Entertainment. On 1 July of the same year, Amanda released her first official single titled Amazulu off her eponymous debut studio album, and it was met with wide positive acclaim. Under a month after its release, the album sold over 31,000 copies and was certified platinum.
At the 2017 Metro FM Music Awards, she was nominated in 5 categories and won the Best R&B Single and Listeners Choice Awards. She also won 4 awards at the South African Music Awards for Best Album of the Year, Best New Comer of the Year, Best Female Artiste of the Year and Best R&B Soul Reggae Album. She has headlined at some of the biggest events in South Africa, like the 11th Annual South African Film and Television Awards, 16th Metro FM Music Awards and the Durban Jazz Festival. Her incredible unplugged performance has had her named as “2017’s one to watch” by MTV Base.

Born Amanda Benedicta Antony in 1993 in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Her passion for music can be traced back to her singing at the church at an early age and getting requests to perform at family events. After High School, she proceeded to the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, where she graduated with a Diploma in Musical Education. She has featured in three editions of South African Idols and has since established herself as one of the upcoming motivational musicians in South Africa.
